Swanage is a coastal town and civil parish in the south east of Dorset, England and it is at the eastern end of the Isle of Purbeck Population: 9,601 and that’s where the www.Camping-Jedi.com trip started this October.
Other than the chat with PC Plod on the way, who gifted me 3 special points, it was a trouble-free start and we’d parked up and was on foot by 9:30 AM, with the wind in our hair. The weather was glorious, far better than anticipated, but we knew we needed to get a lick on as a storm was predicted for the evening.
Reuban had been crying all week at the possibility of getting wet, but as it turned out, he didn’t die after all, indeed he seemed to quite enjoy himself.
If there was anything to learn from this trip it was the following:
- Reuban won’t die if he gets wet
- You can fit 3 men and kit in a two man tent and eat a decent meal
- A 120 minute Athletics training session the day before a 30 km hike with 25K packs isn’t a clever move!
The first few hours were very pleasant and so I took the opportunity to take a few snaps of the waves and take in the views, pretty impressive to think that just 90 minutes from home is such an amazing place with virtually no people, and awesome place for a coffee is by the Lighthouse circa 100 minutes into the walk.
Some of the hills took us a little by surprise – pretty steep!
We manged to find a secluded spot for the night alongside a wood because the weather and wind was shocking, we were all in bed by 930pm!
Proof 3 men can eat steak, beans, rice and a cheese plate in a two man tent!
A swift coffee and danish at 6am and we were back on our feet with not trace we’d even been there!
G-Man loved the hills on the second day….
But the views were totally worth it 🙂
And even Reuban managed to crack out a smile in the drizzle!
