From Idea to Impact: The Tidy Garden.com

From Idea to Impact: The Tidy Garden.

Five months ago, The Tidy Garden was just a simple idea—something I started on the side to keep active and offer a bit of help to local people with their gardens. No business plan, no strategy, just a name, a rake, and a willingness to see where it might go.

Fast-forward to now, and the idea has grown faster than I could’ve imagined.

My first client gave me a recommendation, which led to another, and then another. I’ve spent £4 on Facebook ads—just once—and that was it. Word of mouth took over, and as nuts as it sounds a few months later I now have some decent tools, experience, references a van, very full diary and jobs booked weeks and weeks into the future.

But recently things have begun to feel much less embrionic. I’ve realised I can’t keep saying yes to everyone… my biggest weakness?

And that’s been the hardest lesson: I can’t help everyone.

I’ve had to start turning down work, and dropping clients that don’t value my offering in order to stay focused, motivated and continue the growth – it needs to be sustainable afterall.

It’s very tempting to say yes to every enquiry, but I know now that staying local is better for both me and the people I work with, and that I need to feel valued and respected by those I’m grafting for.

Am I making a profit yet? Not even close. I haven’t paid myself a penny. But there’s momentum—and that matters, it’s from the growth and progress that I get the greatest buzz.

And so I’m very pleased the groundwork has been laid, and if things continue the way they’re going, next year could look very different.

But all of this has got me thinking…, especially when in nature gardening.

What is offers the best seratonin hit?

The success of the new business?
The gratitude from customers?
The fresh air and absence of tech?
Or just the mental calm of being outside alone?

You can watch the very moment The Tidy Garden idea was born by clicking the link below, and no doubt how it ends.
