The most common excuse for people not venturing out is “But, I don’t have the kit”.
So stop making excuses!
Firstly ask around, most people who camp have two, if not three, of everything. Just borrow things for the first few times.
Alternatively why not find £150 and get online for 30 minutes.
Wild camping has got the be the best value for money hobby a man can have.
My one man OEX Phoxx1 tent is just about to do it’s 50th night out! – less that £1 per night.
Thompsonator Tips n kit.
It helps to take a photo of what you actually need, which acts as a checklist for the next trip. As you become more experienced you’ll learn that you take less and less, which All adds to the pleasure.
ONE NIGHT – 36 hours / 30k
1 Man tent £50 – I’d recommend one with a sewn in groundsheet Phoxx 1 works for me
1 sleeping mat £6 – If below freezing take a foil space blanket also (£1 online)
1 sleeping bag – £40 – A 3/4 season bag is fine for the UK
Babywipes / Mini wash-kit
1 decent meal – steak and rice is my standard! (I season and oil a steak and put it in my small pan then freeze them both together and put them in a ziploc bag – saves time/packaging)
Jetboil, or Meths burner if you prefer
Knife, fork, spoon
1 survival bag and emergency kit – get a decent one!
Smartphone, spare batter and headphones
Sweets/nuts/snacks/lighter/Ferro rod
And WATER!

Regarding the clothing – think ahead.
I use different weather services to check the likely conditions, but typically take craig hopper waterproof trousers/shorts, thermals for night wear if freezing, and a spare pair of cacks, socks and t shirt. You don’t need lots of clothes, thin layers are better as is a quality fleece.
A goretex cammo coat perfects the look 🙂
Personally I love the olive green or cammo wear, it just feels right when you’re out and about in nature and you blend in.
You can always use the Emergency Bivvy to get spotted if SHTF.
Obviously don’t forget your branded T-Shirt, hat and cool shades!
